EFFECT OF TECHNOLOGICAL ADOPTION ON POULTRY FARMERS EFFICIENCY IN ABUJA
Abstract
ABSTRACT
This study investigates the impact of technological adoption on the efficiency of poultry farmers in Abuja, Nigeria. Despite the significant potential of the poultry industry to address protein deficiency and foster economic growth, Nigeria faces a substantial gap in animal protein consumption. This challenge is exacerbated by low literacy rates among farmers, insufficient access to proper inputs and management information, and limited adoption of modern farming techniques. This research specifically examines the effects of incubation technology, automated feeding systems, and automated watering systems on poultry production output. Utilizing the Production Function Theory, Innovation Diffusion Theory, and the Resource-Based View, the study posits that these technologies can significantly improve productivity by optimizing resource use, reducing waste, and enhancing overall farm management. Through assessing the impact of these selected technologies, this study aims to provide crucial insights for policymakers, agricultural extension workers, and stakeholders to formulate strategies that encourage technology adoption, ultimately improving the livelihoods of poultry farmers and contributing to food security in Abuja.
