Abstract

ABSTRACT The proposed online voting system with biometric authentication is a secure electronic voting solution that utilizes fingerprint minutiae to enhance voter trust and confidentiality. It is designed for universal accessibility via the Internet. It effectively addressed the issues faced during staff elections at Niger Delta University. During voter registration and authentication, fingerprints were captured, minutiae extracted, and stored in a database to prevent fraud. Voters are assigned unique identification numbers, and during authentication, their fingerprints are matched against the stored values. This system has achieved high success rates, thereby eliminating multiple registrations and ensuring accurate eligibility and accreditation. Voters can cast their ballots via internet-connected devices using their identification numbers, security answers, and unique token keys. This innovative system has revolutionized staff elections, offering a credible and trusted voting method, and earning strong recommendations for future deployments.
