BATHYMETRIC SURVEY OF A SECTION OF SOMBREIRO RIVER AHOADA EAST LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA, RIVERS STATE

Bathymetric Survey of a Section of Sombrero River include measuring and mapping the depth and topography of water. Sombreiro River is located at Ahoada East LGA,Rivers State, It is known for transportation of goods and services and marine vehicles. Bathymetric Survey also provides valuable information for variety of industries including marine research, hydrographic mapping. The Principle of acoustic method was deployed in this study to determine depth of Sombreiro River for purpose of producing a bathymetric map of the River. The following was used to acquire data for this study, Echo sounder was used in getting the depth for the operation, GPS receiver was used in getting coordinates of points on the river and satellite imagery from google earth. Data acquired was processed using HYPACK 2018 for the sounding lines, AutoCAD2021 and Suffer 10 were fully ultilized in the process of creation of a bathymetric map of Sombreiro River. The maximum depth of a section of Sombreiro River is 9.268m, minimum depth is -0.19m. The data acquired through this Bathymetric Survey will enhance marine navigation and construction, dredging and other related activities within the study area.
