PLANNING PROPOSAL FOR RECREATIONAL CENTRE FOR, FEDERAL POLYTECHNIC IDAH KOGI STATE

The research was carried out to enhance the planning proposal for a recreation Centre for Federal Polytechnic Idah. The objectives of this research work is to identify recreational canters within the Federal Polytechnic Idah, to carryout physical assessment of recreational facilities within the campus, to develop a modern recreational faculties equipped with amenities, such as football pitch, fitness centers, indoor game room, and relaxation space. To make a design proposal for recreational Centre for Federal Polytechnic Idah Kogi State. This research became necessary due to abandoned recreational facilities, lack of management of recreational facilities. This research endeavored to identify the problems of recreation and delivery of recreational facilities in the study area, the recreational needs of the people and how the planning of recreation centre will improve the health and quality of life through variety of recreational activities. In order to achieve the goal of this study, 154 structured questionnaires were designed and administered to student leaders, student’s governments, the business owner, and Staff of Physical Planning and Works Department. These questionnaires were collected and analyzed using statistical methods of analysis, which include statistical tabulation, descriptive analysis i.e making use of frequencies and percentage. Based on the analysis, findings were discussed and recommendations were made. The study recommended that, a Planning Authority should be made functional in Federal Polytechnic Idah, there should be adequate management for the proposed recreation center on completion, the provision of recreational facilities should serve both active and passive that outdoor and indoor recreation and recreational facilities should be of standard to satisfy the recreational needs of the institution.
