Abstract

ABSTRACT This study explores the role of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in the effective management of students' academic records, with a specific focus on Abdu Gusau Polytechnic, Talata Mafara, Zamfara State. The research aims to assess how ICT tools and systems contribute to the accuracy, efficiency, and overall management of academic records within the institution. The study employs a mixed-method approach, incorporating both quantitative and qualitative data collection methods. Surveys and interviews were conducted with administrative staff, faculty members, and students to gather insights into the implementation and impact of ICT solutions in managing academic records. The research findings indicate that ICT significantly enhances the efficiency of academic record management by automating processes, reducing errors, and providing timely access to information. However, challenges such as inadequate infrastructure, lack of technical training, and resistance to change were also identified. The study concludes that while ICT offers substantial benefits for managing academic records, addressing the identified challenges is crucial for optimizing its effectiveness. Recommendations include investing in infrastructure improvements, providing comprehensive training for staff, and fostering a culture of openness towards technological advancements. The findings of this study contribute to the understanding of ICT's role in academic administration and offer practical insights for improving record management practices in educational institutions.
