Abstract

ABSTRACT This study investigated the economic implications of utilizing cassava peel-based diets containing shivan and sandpaper leaf meals at two levels each (0GLM0FLM, 10GLM, 20GLM, 10FLM and 20FLM) to West African Dwarf goats. In doing this, the unit costs of the ingredients and the milling charges were assessed. Thereafter, the various unit prices of the ingredients were regressed against their incorporation levels to determine the production cost per kg of each formulation. Revenue per kg of weight gain were obtained by subtracting the feed cost/kg from the prevailing market price per kg of the live body weight. It was revealed that the 10FLM gave the highest returns per kg of body weight gain of the experimental animals. The 10FLM diet can be recommended to farmers for optimum returns on their investment. Alternatively, the 10GLM, 20GLM and 0GLM0FLM diets can be employed in the feeding of WAD goats as they gave comparable economic returns. However, 20FLM diet is not advisable in terms of economic returns to the farmer.
