Abstract

This study explores the intricate dynamics between patriarchy and female agency in Yejide Kilanko's novel, Daughters who will walk this path. While the novel addresses the cultural context of Nigeria and the struggles of women for personal empowerment and equality, specific ways in which female characters navigate and resist patriarchal structures remain unexplored. The aim of this study is to highlight the intersection of patriarchy and female agency in the novel, uncovering the complexities and nuances that arise from the characters' navigation of traditional gender roles, societal expectations, and personal desires. The objectives of the study include analyzing patriarchy to understand power structures imposed on women, exploring female characters' strategies to challenge patriarchy and find avenues for empowerment, and examining the implications of the characters' struggles for the broader discourse on gender equality in Nigerian society.
