EVALUATION OF BEHAVIOUR OF ASPHALT MIXTURE MODIFIED WITH WASTE COOKING OIL AND NANO-MARL
Abstract
ABSTRACT
Filler is one of the components of asphalt. It plays a significant role on the characteristics and performance of the asphalt concrete mixtures. 8 numbers of Marshall specimens were prepared according to American society for Testing and Materials ( ASTM D-1559). The Waste cooking oil as a variable additive used was within the percentage of 5%,10%, and 15%. Afterward mechanical properties such as Marshall stability, flow and stiffness were determined and the Volumetric properties such as Density and Void were also determined. The results shows that 5.2% was the Optimum Bitumen Content used for the sample preparation alongside fine aggregates, coarse aggregate and nano marl. Marl dust at 5.0% showed a maximum stability value of 2.39KN while the flow and stiffness were 1.36mm and 2.13KN/mm. Mix with marl dust performs better than the mix with granite dust in terms of Marshall stability, because the marl dust is a constant additive which serves as an hardening material for modification of the asphalt mixture. This study concludes that marl dust can be used as a partial replacement for quarry dust.
