INVESTIGATION INTO CAUSES OF BUILDING COLLAPSE IN CONSTRUCTION SITE IN KADUNA STATE
Abstract
This study investigates the causes of building collapse in construction sites in Kaduna State, Nigeria. The research was conducted to identify the major structural, material, and managerial factors responsible for building failures.
A descriptive survey design was adopted, and data were collected from construction professionals including engineers, builders, contractors, and site workers through structured questionnaires. The data were analyzed using simple percentages and presented in tables and charts.
The findings revealed that the major causes of building collapse include the use of substandard materials, poor supervision, faulty structural design, and non-compliance with building codes. The study concludes that building collapse is largely preventable and is mainly caused by human errors and weak regulatory enforcement.
The study recommends strict enforcement of building regulations, use of qualified professionals, and adoption of quality control measures to prevent future occurrences.
