Abstract

ABSTRACT For decades, businessmen military leaders and behavioral scientist have had an abiding faith in the inevitability of relationship between morale and productivity. At first glance, this relationship seems simple and implies a high degree of causality in its logic. The theory is that if one increases the capacity of the job situation and the working environment to satisfy the manifest need of the workers, then morale increases and the motivation of worker to continue in that environment and qualify their needs similarly increase. It follows that this increase in motivation results almost automatically to a higher degree of productivity, everything being held equal. Morale is thus viewed as the signal of a motivating job situation. By this reasoning, anything we do which increases the morale of an organization should also increase the productivity. A good management is one which is innovative and able to keep the organization afloat in hard times and period of economic recession. The experience in Ankpa Local Government lt., as the records showed has amongst other things indicated that industries productivity generally was improved by practical application of the theories of motivation.
