Abstract

This work was carried out to explore the effect of bifenthrin on the heart of Wistar rats and its inflammatory parameters. Thirty (30) male Wistar rats weighing 110g-250g were divided into three (3) groups of 10 Wistar rats each. Group 1: Normal control received 0.5ml distilled water, group II (14-day BIF) were treated with 5mg/kg body weight bifenthrin for 14 days, group III (28-day BIF) received 5mg/kg body weight bifenthrin for 28 days, after which animals were sacrificed through cervical dislocation, following an overnight fast. The heart was harvested, homogenized, centrifuged and the supernatant collected was used for biochemical evaluation of TNF-α, COX-2, PGE2, iNOS, LTB4 and IL-6.
