Abstract

Academic libraries play a significant role in enhancing student performance. One of the effective ways to improve student learning is by using audiovisual resources. This study aims to investigate the use of audiovisual resources in academic libraries for the enhancement of students' performance in federal University of Lafia academic Library. order to realize the objective of this study, extensive literature review was carried out. The study adopted a descriptive survey design as the most appropriate research design. A structured questionnaire was used as the main instrument for data collection. This provides an avenue for the researcher to have a complete overview on what the respondent thinks towards the use of audio visual resources on students’ academic performance. A total number of 146 questionnaires was distributed to the respondent. The findings reveal that FULAFIA library possesses a diverse collection of AVRs, including educational films, audiobooks, and online tutorials. However, accessibility remained a challenge due to limited equipment, inadequate infrastructure, and lack of awareness among students regarding available resources. Also, Students who actively used AVRs reported improved understanding of complex concepts, enhanced critical thinking skills, and increased motivation to learn. They also demonstrated higher academic performance compared to those who relied solely on traditional print materials. The study identified several challenges hindering the optimal utilization of AVRs, including inadequate funding, technical issues, lack of training for librarians and students, and limited space for dedicated AVR sections. Based on the findings, the study recommends; Academic libraries should provide students with more opportunities to learn how to effectively use audiovisual resources through workshops and training sessions. Libraries should regularly update and expand their collection of audiovisual resources to meet the demand of students and ensure that popular resources are readily available. Libraries should invest in updating their technology and equipment for accessing audiovisual resources, such as providing high-speed internet, functional media players, and up-to-date software. Libraries should consider creating a dedicated space for students to use audiovisual resources, which can provide a suitable environment for them to engage with these resources without distractions. Libraries should actively promote the use of audiovisual resources among students to encourage them to explore and utilize these resources in their learning
