HAEMATOLOGICAL QUALITY OF BROILER CHICKEN GIVEN AQUEOUS EXTRACT OF BLACK PEPPER (PIPER NIGRUM) IN PLACE OF ANTIBIOTICS AT STARTER PHASE
Abstract
An Eight-week experiment was conducted to investigate the hematological quality of broiler chicken given aqueous extract of black pepper (piper nigrum) in replacement for antibiotics. Four treatments were used in the experiment. (T1), water was used as the negative control, (T2) 2g of synthetic antibiotic (keproceryl), (T3) 2ml of aqueous black pepper extract, (T4) 4ml of aqueous black pepper extract respectively. Ninety-six-day-old (96) broiler chickens (Arbor acres breed) were randomly divided into 4 groups, and the groups were allocated into four (4) treatments of twenty-four birds, housed in three replicates of eight birds per replicate in a completely randomized design experiment. Data were collected on hematological parameters (PCV, RBC, Hb, MCV, WBC, MCHC, MCH, Lymphocytes, and Platelets). Results showed that there were significant differences (P
