MODELLING AND CONTRUCTION OF A HYBRID POWER SYSTEM IN UNICROSS
Abstract
ABSTRACT
The abrupt rise in energy demand has led to the incessant and epileptic power supply situation as well as power shortage such as the case observed in a greater duration of most days in the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS). Hence, the need for a back-up off-grid based power generation system for electrification shifting from conventional to non-conventional sources of energy, in a process that reviles the sustainable energy resources without damages to nature, making it a possibility to supply uninterrupted power using a smartly integrated hybrid power system. This project delivers a review on a constructed stand-alone PV solar energy system and an enhanced modelled hybrid electrification of the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS) Calabar, using two renewable energy source hydro and biomass, utilizing the solar energy from the sun and the energy extracted from biomass. It also highlights a sustainable and reliable hybrid renewable power generation system operation for electricity generation at an affordable cost. Furthermore, this project focuses on the optimal integration of renewable energy systems used for electrification, factors influencing a particular hybrid energy system selection, and the energy management strategy followed to facilitate the work.
