Abstract

This study is to investigated the strength properties of concrete produced by replacing conventional coarse aggregates with waste glass. This project is limited to the use of waste glass (WG) as replacement for coarse aggregate in the production of concrete. Waste glass were used to replace coarse aggregate at 0%, 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% by weight of coarse aggregate. The density and compressive strengths of the specimen will be evaluated after 7 and 28 days of curing in water. It was observed that the test conducted at 7 days, the density strength of the control mix varies significantly after the replacement of granite with waste glass . The results indicate that adding the conventional aggregate (granite) with waste glass led to significant replacement in density from 7500 kg/m3 to 6950kg/m3. It was observed that the test conducted at 28 days, the density strength of the control mix varies significantly after the replacement of granite with waste glass. The results indicate that adding the conventional aggregate (granite) with waste glass led to significant replacement in density from 7600 kg/m3 to 7300kg/m3. It was observed that the test conducted at 7 days, the compressive strength of the control mix varies significantly after the replacement of granite with waste glass. The results indicate that adding the conventional aggregate (granite) with waste glass led to significant replacement in compressive strength from 76.08 N/mm2 to 60.21 N/mm2. The results indicate that adding the conventional aggregate (granite) with waste glass led to significant replacement in compressive strength from 63.99 N/mm2 to 56.88N/mm2 for 28 days. Based on the result obtained from this experimental research following conclusion can be drawn The evaluation of Waste glass as an aggregate in concrete mixtures has shown promising results, particularly in terms of sustainability and lightweight applications. The study demonstrates that Waste glass can be effectively utilized as a partial replacement for traditional aggregates, offering an environmentally friendly alternative that also provides economic benefits, especially in regions where Waste glass is abundant. Based on the findings, it is recommended to optimize the mix design when using Waste glass as an aggregate in concrete. This includes adjusting the water-cement ratio, cement content, and the proportion of Waste glass to achieve a balance between workability, strength, and durability. Given that Waste glass is lighter and more porous than traditional aggregates, precise adjustments are necessary to maintain structural integrity.
