AWARENESS AND PRACTICAL STEPS IN UNDERTAKING INDUSTRIAL RADIOGRAPHY AS AN AREA OF SPECIALIZATION AMONG RADIOGRAPHY STUDENTS AND INTERNS RADIOGRAPHERS IN OYO STATE
Abstract
Background of Study:
This study examines the level of awareness and the practical measures taken by radiography students and interns in Oyo State, Nigeria, to specialize in industrial radiography.
**Objectives:**
The Aims of the study are to evaluate the level of awareness, identify obstacles and difficulties, investigate advantages and possibilities, and suggest measures to improve specialization in industrial radiography.
**Method:**
The research adopted a descriptive cross-sectional design and was conducted using a convenience sampling technique to select 300 consenting participants who are university students and interns in the study area.
**Results:**
Data analysis involved descriptive statistics among others to interpret the findings The study found moderate awareness of industrial radiography, with significant gaps in academic information. While 70% knew about career opportunities, only 35% felt adequately informed during their studies. Awareness of industrial radiography as a specialized field was 50%, and understanding its distinction from medical radiography was 55%. Key challenges included limited specialized programs (85%), financial constraints (80%), lack of exposure (75%), perceived lack of job opportunities (65%), and insufficient mentorship (75%).
