Abstract

This study investigates the impact of fertilizer application on the yields of maize, millet, and wheat using a split-plot design. Fertilizers such as Urea and NPK were tested at low, medium, and high application rates under controlled experimental conditions. Statistical analysis, including ANOVA and Tukey’s Honest Significant Difference (HSD) test, was employed to evaluate the effects of fertilizer types and levels on grain yields. The results revealed no significant differences in grain yields among the three crops or between fertilizer types. Similarly, variations in fertilizer levels did not significantly influence yield, indicating diminishing returns beyond a certain threshold. The findings suggest that both Urea and NPK fertilizers can be used interchangeably for these grains, and medium application rates are recommended to optimize cost and production efficiency. The study concludes by recommending further research to assess long-term effects on soil health and productivity while considering environmental factors affecting fertilizer efficacy.
