EFFECT OF COMMERCIAL GROWTH PROMOTER AND TWO DIFFERENT PHYTO ADDITIVES ON PERFOMANCE AND BLOOD PROFILE OF GROWING RABBITS
Abstract
This study investigated the effects of a commercial growth promoter (Nufocare) and two different phytoadditives (breadfruit leaf and breadnut leaf) on the performance and blood profile of growing rabbits. Thirty (30) growing rabbits of mixed breed and mix sexes, weighing between 850-950g were used for the experiment, which lasted for nine (9) weeks. The rabbits were randomly distributed into five dietary treatments consisting of ; Treatment 1 (T1) - Control diet, Treatment 2 (T2) - diet in T1 plus Nufocare (1g/1kg of feed) , Treatment 3 (T3) - diet in T1 plus breadfruit leaf (6g/1kg of feed) , Treatment 4 (T4) - diet in T1 plus breadnut leaf (6g/1kg of feed) , Treatment 5 (T5) - diet in T1 plus combination of breadfruit leaf (3g) and breadnut leaf (3g) (T5). Performance parameters, including weight gain, feed intake, and feed conversion ratio, were measured over nine (9) weeks. Blood samples were collected and analyzed for haematological parameters, including white blood cell count, red blood cell count, hemoglobin levels, and serum biochemistry. Results showed that there were no significant differences (P>0.05) in final weight and daily weight gain across treatments. Daily feed intake was significantly lower (P
