Abstract

Highway transport noise has become a significant environmental concern globally, affecting human health and quality of life. This study investigates highway transport noise and its mitigation measures along the Nasarawa-Keffi Road in Nigeria. Using a combined approach of field measurements and simulation modeling, the research assesses the existing noise levels, identifies contributing factors, and evaluates the effectiveness of potential mitigation strategies. The results show that the Nasarawa-Keffi Road exceeds recommended noise limits with a noise level of 84.3 dB, 88.3 dB and 86.3dB, with peak hours and vehicular traffic being significant contributors. The study recommends targeted mitigation measures, including road design modifications, traffic management strategies, and noise barriers. The findings of this research provide valuable insights for policymakers, urban planners, and environmental managers seeking to reduce highway transport noise and create a more sustainable environment along the Nasarawa-Keffi Road corridor. Keywords; highway transport noise, mitigation measures, Nasarawa-Keffi Road, environmental sustainability, noise pollution.
