Abstract

This study investigates the relationship between military spending and economic growth in Nigeria. It explores whether defense expenditure contributes positively or negatively to economic development. Using a descriptive and analytical approach, data were sourced from government reports and international databases. The findings reveal that military spending has both positive and negative effects: while it enhances security and stability necessary for economic activities, excessive spending diverts resources from critical sectors such as education and health. The study concludes that a balanced approach to defense spending is essential for sustainable economic growth and recommends improved budget allocation and transparency.
