Abstract

In response to the recurring and devastating seasonal flooding in the Omambala region of Anambra State, traditional stationary housing has proven increasingly inadequate. This study, titled "Prototype Floating Smart House of Omambala Region in Anambra State, Nigeria," proposes a resilient architectural alternative that harmonizes with aquatic environments. Conducted at the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, the research utilizes a "Climate-Responsive Design" methodology to develop a dwelling capable of rising and falling with water levels using buoyancy-based foundations. The design integrates "Smart Home" technologies, including automated climate control, IoT-based safety sensors, and renewable energy systems, to ensure both comfort and sustainability. The study concludes that floating architecture is a viable strategy for mitigating internal displacement and economic loss in flood-prone riverine communities. It recommends that the Anambra State Government adopts these buoyant prototypes in urban planning to foster resilient coastal development and solve the long-term housing crisis in the region.
