Abstract

ABSTRACT The study evaluated the effects of varying dietary levels of turmeric (Curcuma longa) powder on the haematological parameters of broiler chickens. A total of 75 birds were fed diets containing 0%. 0.5%. 1.0%, 1.5%, and 2.0% turmeric powder for the experimental period. The (P>0.05) affected by turmeric inclusion. Birds fed 0.5% turmeric powder (T2) recorded the highest PCV (26.00%) and favourable erythrocyte indices, indicating enhanced erythropoiesis and oxygen-carrying capacity. RBC and Hb values were within the normal physiological range for healthy broilers, suggesting that turmeric supplementation did not impair haematopoiesis. The WBC count increased significantly at higher turmeric levels (12.77 ×100/mm' in T5), reflecting enhanced immune response due to turmeric,s immunomodulatory properties. Similarly, MCV, MCH, and MCHC values were significantly influenced, with moderate inclusion promoting optimal red cell maturation and oxygen transport. Differential leukocyte counts, except lymphocytes, also varied significantly among treatments. Overall, moderate dietary inclusion (0.5-1.0%) of turmeric powder improved haematological indices and immune function in broiler chickens without adverse effects on blood profile, indicating its potential as a beneficial natural feed additive in poultry nutrition.
