INFLUENCE OF EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE ON THE ADMINISTRATIVE EFFECTIVENESS OF OFFICE INFORMATION MANAGERS IN INTERNATIONAL BREWERIES, OGUN STATE
Abstract
This study investigated the influence of emotional intelligence on the administrative
effectiveness of Office Information Managers (OIMs) in International Breweries, Ogun
State, Nigeria. Emotional intelligence (EI), comprising self-awareness, self-management,
social awareness, and relationship management, has been recognized as a key
determinant of workplace effectiveness, especially in administrative roles that demand
interpersonal skills, decision-making, and adaptability. The study employed a descriptive
survey research design, using a structured questionnaire to collect data from Office
Information Managers in the company. Descriptive and inferential statistical tools were
used to analyze the data and test the research hypotheses. Findings revealed that OIMs
demonstrated a moderate to high level of emotional intelligence across the four major
components. Results further indicated a significant positive relationship between
emotional intelligence and administrative effectiveness, showing that OIMs who exhibited
higher levels of EI were more efficient in task execution, communication, conflict
resolution, and goal attainment. Regression analysis confirmed that emotional
intelligence significantly predicts administrative effectiveness, with self-awareness and
relationship management emerging as the strongest contributors.
The study concludes that emotional intelligence is an essential factor in enhancing the
administrative effectiveness of Office Information Managers. It recommends that
organizations, including International Breweries, should invest in continuous training
and development programs focused on emotional intelligence to strengthen managerial
and interpersonal capacities, thereby improving overall organizational performance.
