Abstract

Intestinal ischemia reperfusion injury (IIRI) has been shown to affect distant organs such as the brain through oxidative stress and inflammatory mediators. This study investigated the effects of all-trans retinoic acid (ATRA) on glutamate and acetylcholinesterase levels in female Wistar rats subjected to IIRI-induced cognitive deficit. Sixty rats were divided into six groups and treated with low and high doses of ATRA. Results showed a significant increase in glutamate and AChE levels in IIRI groups, while ATRA-treated groups showed significant reductions. The findings suggest that ATRA has neuroprotective potential against IIRI-induced cognitive impairment.
