Abstract

The study area is located in the Pankshin sheet 190SE in Plateau state, Nigeria. It is found within the north-central Basement complex of Nigeria, the area of investigation lies between latitude 090 08’ 00” N to 090 09’ 00” N and longitude 090 20’00” E 090 24’ 00” E and covers an area of about 15km2. It involved geological mapping to determine the lithologies, boundaries and structures as well as carry out a detailed and comprehensive petrographic study of the rock types both in hand specimen and under the microscope. Geologic mapping revealed that the rock types found in the study area include Newer Basalts, Migmatites. Detailed mapping of the area was carried out by traversing across various locations with the study area, rock exposures were mapped and delineated contacts between the different rock types were identified and structures associated to all the rocks such as faults, joints etc. were measured. Generally, the rocks of the study area exhibit textural and mineralogical variations.
