Abstract

This study investigates the nutritional and mineral composition of Bryophyllum pinnatum aqueous leaf extract. The research aimed to validate its potential as a functional food or dietary supplement by analyzing its macronutrient and micronutrient contents. Standard laboratory techniques were used to determine moisture, ash, crude fiber, protein, fat, and carbohydrate content, along with essential minerals such as calcium, magnesium, potassium, sodium, iron, and zinc. The results revealed that the extract is moisture-rich (8.42%) and carbohydrate-dense (59.23%), with moderate levels of crude protein (8.50%) and crude fiber (8.11%). Mineral analysis showed high levels of potassium (380.46 mg/kg) and calcium (301.28 mg/kg), along with appreciable levels of magnesium, sodium, and phosphorus. These findings validate the use of Bryophyllum pinnatum in traditional medicine and support its nutritional relevance. The study recommends further exploration of its bioavailability, safety profile, and inclusion in public health nutrition strategies.
