INFLUENCE OF DIFFERENT LINE SEARCH STRATEGIES ON A CONJUGATE GRADIENT-LIKE METHOD FOR SOLVING SYSTEM OF NONLINEAR EQUATION
Abstract
Line search techniques are crucial in determining a good step size for different types of iterative
algorithms for solving nonlinear problems.
One of the challenging tasks regarding iterative algorithms, especially the conjugate gradient
(CG) algorithm, is to identify the best line search to adopt to compute the step size. This project
incorporates four different line search techniques into an efficient CG-like algorithm with the aim
of comparing their respective performance.
For each line search, benchmark test problems are solved, and the numerical results are reported.
The results show that the CG method is sensitive to the line search technique for some test problems.
