Abstract

Abstract Diabetes mellitus is associated with increased oxidative stress, which contributes to its complications such as retinopathy, neuropathy and nephropathy. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of methanolic extract of Cola milleni on oxidative stress parameters in streptozotocin induced diabetic rats. Streptozotocin was used to induce diabetes in rats, res ilting in elevated oxidative stress parameters and diminished antioxidant defenses. The rats were administered methanolic leaf extract of Cola milleni and metformin for 4 weeks. Results indicated that the administration of Cola milleni extract led to a significant reduction in oxidative stress parameters, including increased level of malondialdehyde concentration (p
