STATISTICAL MODELING OF LENGTH OF STAY OF ADULTS PATIENTS ( A CASE STUDY OF ILEMONA HOSPITAL, EJULE-OFU, KOGI STATE, NIGERIA, JANUARY, 2022- APRIL, 2025 )
Abstract
Statistical Modeling of Length of Stay of Adults Patients ( a case study of Ilemona Hospital, Ejule-Ofu, Kogi State, Nigeria, January, 2022- April, 2025 ) with the aim of determining the appropriate model of the length of stay of adult patients at Ilemona hospital in Ejule, Kogi, State, Nigeria. Retrospective cohort study design was adopted with a study population of 151. Chi square was used to determine the length of stay (LOS). It discovered that Medication and Surgery have statistically significant association with length of stay (p-values < 0.000001). Poisson Regression and Negative Binomial Regression Models were used to analyze the data. The AIC (Akaike Information Criterion) of Negative Binomial Regression Models (757.49) was than lower AIC of Poisson Regression (764.87) which indicates a better-fitting model. Hence, the Negative Binomial Regression Models parameter obtained: LOS = 2.3516 + 0.2849 (*Medication) - 0.4393*Surgery) with an approximated 11days length of stay of nan adult patient. The estimated effect of Medication and Surgery were 33% and 36% respectively.
