Abstract

This study examines the impact of performance evaluation systems on employees’ productivity and efficiency, using the Federal Polytechnic Ado-Ekiti as a case study. The research focuses on three major types of performance evaluation systems: open evaluation, confidential evaluation, and 360-degree evaluation. A survey research design was adopted, and data were collected through structured questionnaires administered to a sample of 303 non-teaching staff selected from a population of 1,250 employees using stratified sampling techniques. Descriptive statistics and regression analysis were employed to analyze the data. The findings reveal that all three evaluation systems have a significant positive effect on employees’ productivity. Specifically, open evaluation enhances transparency and employee involvement, confidential evaluation contributes to structured performance assessment, while 360-degree evaluation provides comprehensive feedback that improves overall performance. The results led to the rejection of all null hypotheses, confirming that performance evaluation systems significantly influence employee productivity. The study concludes that effective performance evaluation systems are essential tools for improving employee performance, identifying training needs, and enhancing organizational productivity. It recommends regular performance appraisals, increased feedback mechanisms, and elimination of bias in evaluation processes to ensure fairness and effectiveness
