DEVELOPMENT OF A RADIO FREQUENCY IDENTIFICATION-BASED SMART SHOPPING SYSTEM USING ARDUINO NANO
Abstract
Electronic commerce has rapidly grown in popularity due to the widespread use of wireless
technologies and other communication channels. Shopping at big malls and making
purchases there is quickly becoming a daily routine in urban regions. After making their
purchases, customers put the various items they have chosen into their carts. Customers
must proceed to the cash register to pay for their purchases after completing their shopping.
A long queue forms at the billing counter as a result of the time-consuming process by
which the cashier uses the barcode reader to create the bill. One definition of a "smart
product" improves the ease, efficiency, and overall quality of one's daily life. This project
aimed to develop a smart shopping system using Radio Frequency Identification to assist
individuals in their routine shopping by shortening the amount of time needed to purchase
a product. It is made up of an MFRC522 RFID reader, RFID cards, equipped with the
Arduino Nano, and a 16x2 LCD. The instructions were programmed in the C programming
language with the Arduino IDE. The design was simulated, and then the components were
assembled and packaged. When the project's development was finished, the system could
show and imitate a straightforward grocery situation. The technology was able to show a
considerable difference in shopping and scanning times when compared to traditional
shopping environments.
