COMBINED ANTIBACTERIAL EFFECT OF LEMON GRASS (CYMBOPOGON CITRUS) AND SCENT LEAVES (OCIMUM GRATISSIMUM) EXTRACT AGAINST SALMONELLA TYPHI, CANDIDA ALBICAN AND ESCHERICHIA COLI
Abstract
The increasing resistance of microorganisms to conventional antibiotics necessitates the search for alternative antimicrobial agents. to evaluate the combined antibacterial effect of lemongrass and scent leaves extract against Salmonella typhi, Candida albicans, and Escherichia coli. Aqueous and ethanolic extracts of lemongrass and scent leaves were combined and tested against the microorganisms using MIC, MBC, and MFC assays. The combined extract demonstrated significant antimicrobial activity: Salmonella typhi: MIC (25 mg/mL), MBC (30 mg/mL),Candida albicans: MIC (25 mg/mL), MFC (40 mg/mL), Escherichia coli: MIC (25 mg/mL), MBC (30 mg/mL). The combined extract of lemongrass and scent leaves exhibits potent antimicrobial activity against Salmonella typhi, Candida albicans, and Escherichia coli, indicating its potential as a natural antimicrobial agent.
