Abstract

A study was conducted to evaluate the anesthetic effect of Meditomidine and lidocaine combination on sheep in Federal Polytechnic Mubi". The objectives of the study is to evaluate the effect of Meditomidine and lidocaine anaesthesian on anaesthetic indices (onset of anaesthesia and duration of anaesthesia in sheep. The research involved ten (10) clinically healthy sheeps of mixed breed, aged between 1 to 3 years, and weighing with mean body weight of 25.5±2.0 kilograms, all sourced from Federal Polytechnic Mubi Research and Livestock Farm and maintained under standard husbandry conditions at the Federal Polytechnic Mubi. Research and livestock farm. The selection of the research drugs and animals, the anaesthetic indices and physiological variable were monitored and documented as data for the research. The result obtained on the effect of Medetomidine in sheeps revealed that onset of anesthesia was 14.1±3.0 minutes while the lidocaine (Control) recorded 2.1±0.6 minutes. The result on the respiratory rate (breathes/minutes) following the treatment and control, shows that there were significant (P>O. 05) changes in respiratory rates over the sampling time from the baseline (0 minutes). The result obtained on respiratory rates (breaths/minutes) following lidocaine difiltration in sheep shows that there were significant (P
