ANTHROPOMETRY OF AURICLE PARAMETERS AMONGST THE IGBOS OF MADONNA UNIVERSITY, ELELE CAMPUS STUDENTS
Abstract
Ear measurement is one of the most important and useful anthropometric
parameters and its estimation holds a specific place in the field of forensic
anthropology, medical anthropology and also production of ear rings. The present
study was done to estimate the ear parameters of 151 females and 137 males with
the age range of 17-30years in Department of Anatomy, Faculty of Basic Medical
Science. All subjects were measured and compared using the mean standard
deviation values of Ear parameters of the females and males with the following
values, for the Males ear parameters and standing height values REL:
54.60±4.98mm,LEL:53.83±4.67mm,REW:33.37±4.89mm,LEW:32.77±4.73mm,RELL
:19.64±3.35mm, LEL:19.49±3.34mm and height 171.38±15.00mm. for the Females
ear parameters and standing height values. REL: 49.73±3.04mm, LEL:
48.87±2.80mm, REW: 30.70±5.73mm, LEW: 31.38±5.82mm, REL:12.58±2.84mm,
LEL:12.38±2.76mm and height 162.98±13.31cm. Showing in the above mean values
the males mean value is higher than females in all parameters. There is a
Significance difference in right ear length (P < 0.05; P = 0.0001), right ear width (P
< 0.05; P = 0.007), right ear lobe (P < 0.05; P = 0.0001), height (P < 0.05; P = 0.039),
left ear length (P < 0.05; P = 0.0001), left ear width (P < 0.05; P = 0.033) and left ear
lobe (P < 0.05; P = 0.0001) was observed when participants within the age group of
17-23 was compared to participants with the age group of 24-30.
In this study the result showed that the in Madonna University, Elele campus
students of Igbo’s origin males higher values for all the measured parameters than
females.
