BACTERIOLOGICAL QUALITY OF BOREHOLE AND SACHET WATER IN SOME SELECTED AREAS IN GADAU METROPOLIS
Abstract
Water has remained priceless natural resources of any bnation. It occupies a permanent position among and rural dwellers 70 of the weight of a cell is composed of contamination lead to serious illness, therefore, there is need to study the bacterial quality of water in order to develop and effective strategy to control and prevent water contamination. Five water samples were collected from Gadau village Bauchi state university borehole water they were Analized microbilogically using pour plate techniques for total bacteria count were five samples (adnan water, nile water, adra water, gadau water, borehole water) have 4.7×10³cfu/ml and tube fermentation for most probable number (MPN) count, 4 samples (Adnan, Nile, adra and gadau sachet water) were negative and is satisfied according to world health organization (2017) standard while water sample from borehole is positive with 14c/100ml and is not satisfied for human consumption.two bacteria were obtained from the total bacteria count of borehole sample and identified by gram stain and biochemical test which confirmed the presence of E. Coli and salmonella spp which indicate that the water is faecally contaminated.it is recommended that public lecture should be given in order to enlighten the people on health hazards associated with contamination and in proper waste disposal and there is need for government to intensify efforts in monitoring well, taps borehole drillers to abide by the rules and regulations governing drilling of water source.
