Abstract

This study examines the housing qualities in the medium-sized settlement of Ipetu-Modu, located in Ile-Ife, Osun State, Nigeria. The research aims to assess the architectural and infrastructural characteristics of residential buildings, focusing on factors such as structural integrity, accessibility, amenities, and environmental sustainability. Utilizing a mixed-methods approach, the study integrates quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews with residents and local authorities to gather comprehensive data. The findings reveal a diverse range of housing types, with varying degrees of adequacy in terms of construction materials, spatial configuration, and utility services. Despite a general adherence to basic housing standards, challenges such as inadequate water supply, poor waste management, and insufficient road infrastructure were identified. These issues are compounded by economic constraints and limited governmental support, impacting overall living conditions. The study concludes with recommendations for policy interventions and community-driven initiatives aimed at improving housing quality and enhancing the livability of Ipetu-Modu. This research contributes to the broader discourse on rural-urban development in Nigeria, offering insights into the housing dynamics within medium-sized settlements.
