Abstract

This study examines the impact of multiple taxation on foreign direct investment (FDI) in Nigeria. Multiple taxation, which occurs when different levels of government impose similar taxes on the same income or business activity, has been identified as a major challenge to attracting foreign investors. The study explores how excessive tax burdens discourage investment inflows, reduce business profitability, and affect economic growth. Using secondary data and relevant literature, the findings reveal that multiple taxation significantly deters FDI by increasing operational costs and creating an unfavorable business environment. The study concludes with recommendations aimed at improving tax policies to enhance Nigeria’s investment attractiveness.
