Abstract

Abstract This study examines the influence of social media on the moral probity and development of youths in Calabar Metropolis. With the increasing penetration of digital platforms, social media has become a dominant force shaping youths’ values, behavior, and overall development. The study adopts a descriptive survey research design. Data were collected using structured questionnaires administered to selected youths within Calabar Metropolis. Findings reveal that while social media contributes positively to educational exposure, skill acquisition, and social connectivity, it also promotes moral decadence through exposure to inappropriate content, cyberbullying, and peer pressure. The study concludes that social media has both constructive and detrimental effects on youth development and moral standards. Recommendations include parental monitoring, digital literacy education, and policy regulation of online content. Keywords: Social media, moral probity, youth development, digital behavior, Calabar Metropolis
