Abstract

This project presents the design of a proposed shopping mall for second 200 unit Lokoja, Kogi State, aimed at addressing the growing demand for modern commercial facilities within the city. Lokoja, as a rapidly developing urban center and a commercial hub in North-Central Nigeria, lacks sufficient standard shopping facilities that can cater to the diverse needs of its increasing population. The proposed shopping mall is envisioned as a multifunctional commercial complex that will provide spaces for retail shops, supermarkets, restaurants, entertainment areas, and essential support services in a safe, accessible, and sustainable environment. The study incorporates architectural design principles, environmental considerations, and socio-economic factors to develop a functional and aesthetically pleasing facility. Emphasis is placed on circulation, natural lighting and ventilation, structural efficiency, and integration with Lokoja’s urban context. Through careful planning and design, the proposed shopping mall will not only enhance the commercial landscape of Lokoja but also contribute to job creation, urban growth, and improved quality of life for residents and visitors.
