IMPACT OF ENVIRONMENTAL ACCOUNTING ON CORPORATE STRATEGY IN MAIDUGURI FLOUR MILLS PLC

ABSTRACT This study explores the impact of environmental accounting on the corporate strategy of Maiduguri Flour Mills Plc, with a focus on how the integration of environmental considerations into financial reporting and decision-making influences the company's long-term planning and operations. Environmental accounting, which involves the identification, measurement, and reporting of environmental costs and benefits, has become an essential tool for businesses aiming to achieve sustainability while maintaining profitability. In the case of Maiduguri Flour Mills Plc, this research investigates the relationship between environmental accounting practices and strategic decisions, such as resource allocation, risk management, regulatory compliance, and stakeholder engagement. Data was collected through a combination of qualitative interviews with key stakeholders in the company and quantitative analysis of financial records and environmental reports. The study hypothesizes that effective environmental accounting leads to enhanced corporate strategy by fostering more sustainable business practices, improving operational efficiency, and enhancing the company's reputation among consumers, investors, and regulatory bodies. The findings suggest that environmental accounting positively influences Maiduguri Flour Mills Plc's corporate strategy, with implications for both the company's profitability and its contribution to environmental sustainability. Recommendations for further integration of environmental accounting into corporate decision-making processes are also provided.
