Abstract

Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) play a pivotal role in fostering societal development across various domains, including healthcare, education, human rights, and economic growth. This study provides a comparative analysis of the contributions and challenges faced by NGOs in Nigeria and the United States. By examining the historical evolution, theoretical frameworks, and legal and institutional contexts, the research highlights the significant achievements of NGOs in both countries. Furthermore, the study explores the unique and common challenges encountered by NGOs, such as funding constraints, political opposition, and operational difficulties. The findings underscore the critical role of NGOs in advancing social justice and development while offering recommendations for enhancing their effectiveness and impact. This comparative analysis aims to contribute to the existing body of knowledge and inform policymakers, scholars, and practitioners about the strategic role of NGOs in different socio-political environments.
