Abstract

ABSTRACT This study examines the use of Radio Benue in addressing farmers–herdsmen conflict in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue State. The persistent clashes between farmers and herders have resulted in loss of lives, displacement, and economic decline in the region. The study adopted a descriptive survey research design, with a sample size of 400 respondents selected through multi-stage sampling techniques. Data were collected using questionnaires and interviews and analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Findings revealed that land disputes and grazing encroachment are the major causes of the conflict. The study also found that Radio Benue plays a significant role in creating awareness, promoting peace campaigns, and facilitating dialogue among stakeholders. However, its effectiveness is constrained by challenges such as poor funding, limited coverage, political interference, and inadequate professional training. The study concludes that while Radio Benue is a vital tool for conflict resolution, there is a need for improved support and strategic programming to enhance its impact. It recommends increased funding, expansion of broadcast coverage, capacity building for journalists, and collaboration with relevant stakeholders to promote sustainable peace.
