Abstract

ABSTRACT This study aims to design and implement a distribution transformer monitoring and control system using GSM technology, addressing the need for real-time, remote monitoring of transformer health to enhance operational efficiency and reduce maintenance costs. The proposed system integrates key sensors for monitoring critical transformer parameters, including voltage, current, temperature, and oil level. These sensors are interfaced with an ATmega32 AVR microcontroller, which processes and transmits data through a GSM module to a central server or user device. Real-time monitoring software is used to generate alerts for quick response to potential issues, allowing timely maintenance and reducing the likelihood of transformer failures. The research investigates the feasibility and effectiveness of using GSM technology in various environments, including rural, urban, and remote locations, validating its reliability and cost-effectiveness compared to alternative communication methods. Through rigorous testing, the system’s accuracy, reliability, and efficiency are evaluated to ensure the stability and effectiveness of the monitoring solution. The resulting prototype offers a practical tool for utility companies, contributing to improved transformer management and preventive maintenance.
