Abstract

The pot experiment was carried out at Crop production and soil science department Arable Experimental Plot, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, to assess the performance of onion (Allium cepa linn) as influence by NPK and Rabbit droppings in Ogbomosho Oyo state, Nigeria . The six (6) treatments introduced were, T0 = (Zero application of fertilizer), T1 = (100% NPK) application, T2 = (75% NPK + 25% Rabbit droppings) application, T3 = (50%NPK +50%Rabbit droppings) application, T4 = (25%NPK +75% Rabbit droppings) application, T5 = (100%Rabbit droppings) application. The trials were arranged in a Completely Randomized Design (CRD), replicated three times. All fertilizer treatments were applied at recommended rate. All data collected on growth and yield parameters were analyzed following the procedures of Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and Duncan Multiple Range Test (DMRT) was used to separate treatment means, at 5% probability level. Soil sample was slightly acidic with pH value of 6.12. T2 (75%NPK +25% Rabbit droppings) significantly enhanced the harvested Onion, while T0 (Zero application of fertilizer) had the least value across all the parameters measured. Therefore T2 (75%NPK +25% Rabbit droppings) is recommended to improve growth and yield of Onion (Allium cepa) and also boost the physical and chemical properties of soil in the study area.
