Abstract

This project explores the creation of 3D models of high-rise structures at the Federal School of Surveying, Oyo, Oyo State, using two methods: Close Range Photogrammetry and Terrestrial Method, utilizing UAV (drones) and ground-based surveying tools (Total Station) respectively. UAV (Drones) were employed to capture high-resolution overlapping aerial images which was integrated for the development of detailed 3D representations (length, width and height) of the structures. Simultaneously, a Total Station was used to gather precise measurements of points and elevations, to provide accurate 3D coordinates. The data processing involved using Agisoft Metashape to analyze the aerial images, generating point clouds on the 3D structure. Agisoft Metashape was then utilized to refine these models, adding texture and enhancing detail. The data from the Total Station was integrated into the photogrammetric models to further improve precision, as well as to compare and determine the accuracy of both methods. The findings revealed that combining photogrammetry technology with terrestrial surveying method yields superior accuracy and detail in 3D modeling. In addition to that they improve the speed of data collection and also offer a more cost-effective solution and better understanding of how these technologies can be applied in an academic environment. This approach not only streamlines the surveying process but also provides valuable insights for surveyors and engineers, demonstrating the advantages of modern techniques in their work.
