Abstract

ABSTRACT It is known that obese individuals have a body max index (BMI) above 30 kg/㎡ or more and it is associated with a higher risk for serious diseases such astype 2 diabetes, heart disease and cancer. The study was done to evaluate the level of hematological parameters in obese individuals in Madonna University, Elele Campus. A total of 125 subjects were recruited for Madonna University, which comprise of 100 obese subjects and 25 non obese subjects serving as the control.Blood samples were collected and using manual method, their full blood count wereanalysed for PCV, HB,platelets,Total WBC and differential WBC. Statistical analysis wasp ≤0.05 was considered done using statistical package for social science (SPSS). Values significant. There was a significant difference in Twbcand basophils of the obese individuals when compared to the non-obese (control). The obese subjects Twbc tend to be lower than the control. This study concluded that BMI has a relationship with obesity and that increased in total Wbc,and basophilscould be a risk factor to obesity. More research is recommended to done on these parameters in different stages of obesity to know the correlation between obesity progress and the above investigated.
