Abstract

This study critically examines the representation of socio-political challenges in two notable Nigerian films: King of Boys and Tenant of the House. Using Marxist literary theory as the analytical framework, the research explores how these films portray complex issues such as power dynamics, gender roles and women's empowerment, class struggles and socioeconomic inequality, as well as corruption within political systems. The study adopts a qualitative research method involving textual and character analysis of the films to uncover how these socio-political issues are dramatized and humanized through narrative, dialogue, and visual storytelling. Findings reveal that both films reflect the lived realities of Nigeria's political and social structures, exposing the marginalization of the lower class, the systemic exploitation of power, and the resilience of female characters navigating patriarchal institutions. While King of Boys foregrounds the rise of a powerful female protagonist in a corrupt, male-dominated system, Tenant of the House focuses on the internal contradictions of political reform and the struggles of ethical leadership. Ultimately, the study concludes that Nollywood serves not only as a mirror of society but also as a platform for resistance and social consciousness. These films challenge dominant ideologies and provoke critical engagement with Nigeria's political realities.
