ANALYSING THE EXISTING RELATIONSHIP BEWEEN INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY (ICT) AND RENEWABLE ENERGY CONSUMPTION IN NIGERIA
Abstract
The study investigate the impact of information and communication technology (ICT) on renewable energy consumption in Nigeria from the period of 1990 to 2022 using the most recent method of data analysis such as unit root test and Autoregressive Distributed lag model (ARDL). The result form the unit root test revealed that all the variables were not stationary at level bust became stationary at first difference. The cointegration relationship between the variable was established through the ARDL bounds test. The long run and short run results revealed that information and communication technology has exert significant positive impact on renewable energy consumption for the period under review. The speed of adjustment which the additional checks to the existence cointegration relationship between the variables shows at 52% every year. The study therefore recommend that government should encourage digitalization of the renewable energy sector, improve ICT infrastructure, enhance digital skills and awareness, create favorable policy and regulatory frameworks, facilitate partnerships and collaboration, promote digital entrepreneurship in the renewable energy sector and conduct research and development.
