Abstract

This study investigates the impact of Accounting Information Systems (AIS) on the performance of Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Zamfara State. The research focuses on how AIS enhances financial reporting, accountability, transparency, and decision-making processes. A quantitative research approach was adopted using structured questionnaires distributed to finance and administrative staff across selected LGAs. Findings reveal that effective implementation of AIS significantly improves financial accuracy, reduces fraud, and enhances operational efficiency. However, challenges such as inadequate training, poor infrastructure, and resistance to change limit its full effectiveness. The study concludes that AIS plays a critical role in improving LGA performance and recommends increased investment in ICT infrastructure and staff capacity building.
