Abstract

This study investigated the effect of cash transfer policy on Nigeria's socio-economic development, focusing on its impact on poverty reduction, household consumption, and human capital development. In recent years, cash transfer programs have emerged as a central pillar of Nigeria’s social safety net strategy, aimed at supporting vulnerable populations and reducing the incidence of extreme poverty. Using both qualitative and quantitative methods, the study analyzes data from government reports, beneficiary surveys, and national economic indicators to assess the effectiveness of these transfers. Findings reveal that while cash transfer policies have improved access to education, healthcare, and food security for many beneficiaries, challenges such as poor targeting, administrative inefficiencies, and corruption continue to limit the overall impact. The research concludes that for cash transfer initiatives to significantly contribute to Nigeria’s economic development, there must be enhanced transparency, proper monitoring mechanisms, and integration with broader development strategies. Policy recommendations are made to strengthen implementation and ensure long-term sustainability of the programs.
